The precision potentiometer, also called precision adjustable potentiometer, is a variable resistor that can adjust its own resistance with high precision. Divided into with pointer, without pointer and other forms, the number of adjustment circles are 5 circles, 10 circles and so on. This potentiometer has the same characteristics as the wire wound potentiometer, but also has the advantages of excellent linearity and fine adjustment. It can be widely used in the occasions where the resistance is precisely adjusted. Widely used in electronic equipment for volume control in audio and receivers.

The trimmer potentiometer has three pins (the middle pin is usually a sliding arm), and there is usually an
adjustment hole on it. Insert a screwdriver into the adjustment hole and rotate it to adjust the resistance value. The resistance value at both ends of the potentiometer is fixed, and the resistance value of the middle pin to any end pin is variable; it is equivalent to dividing the potentiometer into two series resistors from the middle pin, and the total series resistance value is Fixed; therefore, if it is used as a variable voltage divider, one end is connected to the input voltage, the middle end is connected to the output, and the rest is grounded; if it is used as a variable resistor, one end is connected to the input voltage, the middle end is connected to the output, and the rest can be left floating , or connect with the middle end.
